Stomach and duodenal ulcers

Accurate endoscopic diagnosis is key to treatment and preventing bleeding.

🤕

An ulcer is an open sore in the lining of the stomach or small intestine, and neglecting to treat it not only causes pain but can also lead to life-threatening complications such as severe bleeding or stomach perforation. JOMEDIXWe consider ulcer treatment a race against time; it uses Dr. Safwan Al-Khasawneh Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopes to protect the stomach wall before it's too late.

Why do ulcers occur? (Hidden causes)

Contrary to popular belief, stress is not the only cause. The main causes are:

  • Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori): It caused erosion of the protective mucous membrane of the stomach.
  • Analgesics (NSAIDs): Excessive use of aspirin, ibuprofen, and Voltaren silently destroys the stomach wall.
  • Smoking and alcohol: They increase stomach acidity and delay wound healing.

⚠️ Danger signs (call a doctor immediately)

The presence of these symptoms indicates a possibility of internal bleeding:

risk Vomiting blood: Or vomit that looks like “coffee grounds”.
risk Black feces (Melena): Sticky, foul-smelling, very black stool.
risk twitch: It may indicate a hole in the stomach wall.

How do we diagnose and treat?

Clinical diagnosis alone is not enough. We rely on:

  • 🔭 Upper endoscopy (Gastroscopy):
The gold standard procedure is to see the ulcer directly, determine its size, and take a biopsy to ensure there are no cancerous cells.
  • 💉 Endoscopic treatment (for emergency cases):
If there is bleeding, Dr. Safwan stops it immediately during the endoscopy using “cauterization”, “injection”, or “metal clips”.
  • 💊 Drug therapy:
Intensive treatment courses with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and germ therapy to allow the wall to heal.
